Incorporating Healthy Habits
We all have had ambitions to live a healthier lifestyle, but applying that to reality sounds easier than it is in practice. Exercising and eating right are two obvious ways to make a change for your health. How can we realistically embrace, practice, and love a healthier life? With many senior living communities in Woodstock and around the Southeast, the Holbrook team explains practical ways to prioritize a healthy lifestyle.
Practical Ways to Prioritizing a Healthy Lifestyle
Enjoy Your Exercise
Regular exercise is of course crucial for living a healthy lifestyle, but running isn’t for everyone. Swimming isn’t for everyone. Cycling isn’t for everyone.
How many times have you gone out for a jog and wished it would end as soon as you started? After doing that, it’s easy to think to yourself, “I don’t like exercising.” You don’t dislike exercising—you just haven’t found the right workout for you.
There are plenty of ways to stay active and have a great time while doing it! Have you thought about picking up tennis? Have you been interested in yoga classes? Think about the sports and activities you’ve enjoyed and look into working them into your routine.
Many of us have tight schedules. Time may be a constraint when trying to get into the habit of exercising regularly. How can you make time for a full workout while also meeting the obligations of everyday life?
Well, one of the best ways to maintain a consistent, active lifestyle is by finding a workout partner. Maybe this is a friend whom you’ll enjoy going to the pool with. Whatever the activity is, having that accountability will help you stay consistent in your workout routine.
You may also want to adjust your daily schedule just a little bit to fit in a workout. For example, consider taking a walk during your lunch break. A few small ways to work this into your day-to-day life is by parking in the back of the parking lot to add more steps to your day, or you can do a few small in-home workouts while watching your favorite nightly program or listening to an audiobook.
Think of ways to make your workout fun to make a habit out of it—something you’ll look forward to.
Loving Healthy Eating
Half of Americans are on a diet at any given time, and many are trying a fad diet for the first time. The only diet that works long-term is the diet that you can enjoy and eat every day.
To prioritize what you put into your body, consider prepping your own meals if possible. By doing this, you’ll know what ingredients are going into the food. You can also make substitutions for certain ingredients and make a delicious meal that is good for you.
If you still like eating out, that is still possible to do while maintaining a healthy diet. Many restaurants have healthy options labeled on the menu. Take a look at the menu online ahead of time if it’s available or talk with your server to have an idea of what amazing dishes fit into your diet. Holbrook, which is among the Atlanta and Woodstock areas’ top senior living communities, has five-star restaurants for its residents, serving meals fit for an active lifestyle.
For mid-day snacks, think about what kind of fruit you like and munch on that instead of chips or other snack foods. Remember to drink water and stay hydrated.
Committing to a strict diet isn’t fun, but eating healthy can be!
