Feel like you have too much house? Here are 5 things to try

At some point in our lives, we buy a home that is the perfect fit for our family. That family then grows up and moves on to start families of their own. It’s not unusual for empty-nesters to suddenly feel like they have too much house. If you are feeling this way, there are a few great ideas that you can use for that extra space in your home.

1. Art Studio

You have always had an interest in drawing and painting, but you’ve never had the room to take up the hobby. You do now! Maybe you’ve always wanted to craft, or you’ve developed a sudden but burning interest in all that you see on Pinterest. Turning your extra room into an art studio gives you the space you’ve always needed.

2. Meditation Room

Meditation has been proven to be good for the heart as well as the mind. Paint your room in soothing colors keep it free of clutter and roll a yoga mat onto the floor. A few of your favorite scented candles, some low, relaxing music and you have a place to zone out and forget your stress.

3. Rent Out Your Room

Imagine the fun you could have living vicariously through travels to your city. Travelers, especially young students, don’t always have money for fancy hotel rooms. Why not rent out a room in your home? You can decide if you are going to provide meals or other amenities. You can advertise your room for rent locally or through various apps that will reach anyone in the world.

4. Foreign Exchange Student

Hosting a foreign exchange student can be a great way to refill your nest, even if it’s only for the school year. Hosting a student is a wonderful opportunity that is beneficial to both the student and the host.

5. Downsize & Optimize

If you feel as though it’s not just an extra room that has you overwhelmed but your whole house, you also have the option of selling it or renting it out completely. Moving into an independent living community can allow you to maintain your active lifestyle without the headaches of maintaining a home that you have outgrown.

If you are interested in learning more about what our active adult lifestyle communities have to offer, reach out to our office.
